Find common causes of sluggish performance before installing another cleanup tool.
Start with the obvious
Restart the computer if it has been running for a long time, then check whether the slowdown affects every app or only one. A single browser tab or background update can make a machine feel slower than usual.
Review startup apps
Use the operating system settings to review apps that launch automatically. Turn off only the items you recognize and do not need at startup. Avoid disabling drivers or security tools just to shorten the startup list.
Check storage and updates
Keep reasonable free space on the system drive and install updates from your operating system vendor. If the drive is nearly full, remove files you no longer need after backing up important documents.
Avoid miracle optimizers
Be cautious with utilities that promise instant speed boosts, display alarming scan results, or demand payment before explaining a problem. Use built-in diagnostics and trusted vendor documentation first.
Back up important files before making significant changes. Never share passwords, payment details or one-time security codes with unexpected callers or pop-ups.
